The ICC has punished Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka player Asitha Fernando 25 per cent of their match fees after a tense exchange on the field. The incident occurred on 24 August 2026 during the Test match in Colombo. During the fixture, Jaiswal made physical contact with Fernando with his head while on the pitch, drawing swift action from match officials. Both Cricinfo and the ICC verified the fines issued to the players for poor conduct.
Following the ruling, Jaiswal accepted the sanction but defended his actions. He stated that he acted appropriately during the heated moment. Speaking to Indulge Express, he insisted that India would continue to battle on in their next matches despite the recent confrontation.
