An 85-year-old man who vanished from Harrietville on Sunday has been discovered safe. Jacobus Bakkum departed from the Harrietville Hotel for a short drive home. He never reached his destination. Search crews began looking for him when he failed to return.
Search teams located Bakkum alive at a crash site near Mitta Mitta. That location is about 100 kilometres away from Harrietville. It was a significant distance away. After locating him, emergency workers took the elderly man to hospital for medical treatment. He is under care now.
