A federal appeals court has paused the execution of Christa Pike, Tennessee's first woman to be executed in 200 years. The delay occurred one hour before the scheduled execution. Pike was convicted of murder in 1991 and has been on death row since then. The decision comes as a unexpected turn to many, given the rarity of such interventions in the execution process.
